Event Details

At only 19 years old, Enoch Kanaya was drafted into World War II. Originally from Portland, OR, Kanaya and his family were incarcerated at the Minidoka camp in Idaho at the time he was conscripted into military service. He served in what would become the most decorated unit in US military history, the all-Japanese American 442nd infantry. While Kanaya fought in the European theatre, his parents were released from camp and relocated to Chicago where he would eventually join them. Kanaya will be speaking at Alphawood Gallery to discuss his and his family’s personal history of incarceration and service, as well as what came after as they made their new lives here in Chicago.
